Calling it now! Watch the DNC sabotage the primary election so he tanks. They’d rather lose a democratic election than having a candidate be elected that will actually do what they all claim to stand behind.

LOL you really believe that, don’t you?

For those of you who live in reality, the moderate Democrats are already lining up behind Abdul, including Governor Whitmer.

People want a fighter and they don’t really give a shit about the inside baseball stuff about who’s a this, who’s a that. That’s why actual leftists are winning primaries like this and in other places, more moderate candidates are taking the nomination. The relevant variable isn’t left/center; the relevant variable is “fights for me” vs “does not.”

They’re already out trying to spin his win as a failure because he didn’t win by a big enough margin.

This guy is literally facing the camera saying “I’m not a socialist. I am a capitalist, who wants the rich to pay their fair share.” and the establishment is screeching communism.

Idk how it can’t be more plainly clear that we are in a class struggle against the ultra rich.

and the establishment is screeching communism.

      They always do that…

The difference, and why they’re louder than usual, is because they no longer control the DNC.

The person who does, supports El-Sayed.

Abdul El-Sayed is a dedicated public servant who fought to make government work for Michigan families. Now, he is ready to take that fight to the U.S. Senate.

We’ve been calling then the establishment for decades, because that’s what they are. I have no clue where you got the idea that calling them the establishment is some new thing that happened in the last six months

Just because someone else supposedly controls the DNC now doesn’t magically make all the people behind the curtain disappear. The DNC is only part of the equation. The establishment is the establishment because they still hold all the most powerful public offices and because they control most of the donor money and media access.

How is that quote showing support for him? It’s literally just describing who El-Sayed is and what he’s doing. He even gives the game away at the end with his “let us win this” line.

Remember when you posted Ken Martin’s mission statement shortly after he took over? He said he wants to win above all else and this is just an extension of that mission. I doubt he really cares who it is doing the “winning” just so long as they have a “D” next to their name.

Let’s hope for the U.S.’s fate it continues the Republicans with Trump have done untold damage to your reputation that will take generations to repair if ever.

No trade deal signed with the U.S. is worth the paper it’s printed on.

The constant belief that the free market will make health care affordable.

The constant lies and untruths told by Republicans.

You want a sobering reminder of what large swaths of the U.S. are like? Watch “the good liars” on YouTube. The guys from the “daily show” go around talking to people. It’s funny but depressing to watch. These are the people you’re voting against.

It’s actually wild to watch how quickly the mood has been shifting since 2024.

Now, everyone is talking about wealth disparity and all the issues that come with it. Progressive candidates are winning primaries left and right. Democrats are flipping seats at an unprecedented rate. Black voter turnout in the South has been surging since the gutting of the VRA.

In November of 2024 the Democratic party was in shambles. Now, thanks to progressive candidates and voters, they’re actually forming an identity that isn’t just “not Republican.” They’re running on issues that benefit the common people and they’re winning.

Democratic party is still in shambles. There’s a faction inside of it that’s growing but they still have to win elections (which Trump will try to cancel or steal), win some power inside the party (which the leadership will do everything they can to prevent), win presidential primaries (with, again, entire establishment against them, this time at national level), win elections (against JD or Rubio which could actually be pretty easy) and push through reforms (like filibuster reform, pack Supreme Court and so on) fighting against both republicans and corporate dems. Once all this is done progressives will be able to actually start governing. Very hard but at least there’s a path now. A year ago there was nothing.

Hey, for any progressive / socialist / communist / anarchist lemmings out there that thinks the Democratic establishment can’t or won’t support a more left candidate:

    • “I am proud to offer my support as he takes on Mike Rogers in the general election,” [U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens] said.

    • Curtis Hertel, the chair of Michigan Democratic Party, urged unity ahead of November.

    • Sen. Gary Peters, the Michigan Democrat whose retirement spurred the contentious primary to replace him, said, “Congratulations to him.”

Of course, this doesn’t mean we can just vote our way out of this, or that the Democratic party is the best way to move forward your politics. But, just remember the value of a strategic vote isn’t nothing and doesn’t have much opportunity cost.

Please stop using X. It only has ad income due to the “daily active users” numbers still being high. Leave it and if you still need to follow select accounts on it, join a Mastodon instance that doesn’t defederate @bird.makeup or one of the other X mirroring services.

Just wanted to get as close of a source as possible. The oligarch owned media will always put a slant on it in articles, because they want to depress Dem primary turnouts.

I believe an X mirroring service will count as a single “daily active user” for the X numbers, no matter how many actual people are accessing the information downstream of the mirroring service. I don’t use that number myself, so I’m not sure how it is calculated.

I can operate without X. But, not everyone can. For example, there are governmental organizations that only publish announcements on X. So, some people are going to need to use a mirroring service (or X itself) until they can get entities outside their direct control to change behavior, which always takes time.

Talk is cheap. The Democrats have shown time and time and time again that they’re more than happy to virtue signal or tell citizens what they want to hear when election time rolls around but immediately turn their backs on the people when it comes time to govern.

Maybe save the snarky “I told you so” type comments until you can provide more than hollow quotes from a couple of individuals.

I agree that quotes aren’t a lot of action, but public quotes are one of the methods people in those positions affect the electorate and help (or hinder) candidates. I do hope the DNC contributes materially to the campaign, and agree that has yet to happen.

By supporting and running candidates who aren’t milquetoast poll-readers with passable oratory skills. A decade+ of this shit has finely tuned many folks’ bullshit meters and they are very much done with the status quo, or whatever’s left of it.

As an example, my US rep sent out a blast email a month or two ago with a one-line Yes/No poll question: “should I support the presidents request for an additional $88B for the Iran War?” Bitch, 1) it’s not a “War” as you didn’t sign off on it 2) he and his lackeys do not give a single fuck what you do or don’t support, they’ve proven time and again that they’re just going to do shit whether or not you as a US rep approve, and 3) why the fuck are you asking me? Your entire job is to know more about this shit than me and make Informed Decisions that reflect the best interests of your constituents; me. In fact, i should be asking you that question then holding you accountable when I disagree. That’s how this democracy thing is supposed to work, dickbag.

      Volunteer.

All the money in the world can’t buy actual enthusiasm.

If you have doubts, I can probably dig up that old video of the Cuomo fundraiser for NYC mayor. You can pay people to pretend to be grassroots support, but they’re not going to actually give a shit or be able to actually talk about policy instead of repeating talking points they don’t agree with.

Wherever you are, volunteer with your state Dem party, and drag it left. Even if you’re lucky enough to be in a “good” state, push em left.

The lower the stakes the more of an advantage that is. With data centers we need people involved at even the local level if we’re building up a bottom-up party again, then local politicians are the foundation, not an afterthought.

As two of the greatest environmental protesters of the 90s once said:

Let’s see if they can stomach unity this time, and not preemptively attack them, since they haven’t yet failed Mr. El-Sayed. (Feel free to attack them for actually abandoning progressive candidate that could have or did win in the past.)

If they like winning they will need to unite. Centrists need accept the reasons for their loss. This feels a lot like the Bernie rug pull from 2016. Like they will use the primary wins to grab headlines and momentum then add all the support to the most liberal candidate instead.

          Buddy…

No one in any leadership position should be endorsing anyone in the primary.

If they are, it’s probably lame duck assholes like Schumer and Jefferies. People with zero political power, and are the last vestiges of the old guard until the next congress due to their elections happening just a week or two before the DNC pivoted away from neoliberalism.

The second that happened Jefferies and Schumer lost the ability to withhold funds from any person/state who didn’t do what they said…

That’s the entire reason we keep winning special elections, progressives keep winning primaries, and the party stopped doing their best Smaug impression so they can force a neoliberal thru the presidential primary in 2028. Because they’re not going to try and do that.

They’re trying to get the House/Senate back.

          So…

Because of all that, yes, anyone in a leadership position endorsing during a primary is going to be saying something stupid, that’s because the smart and ethical thing to do is not influence primaries, because that destroys the entire point of having a primary.

If you took a second and looked around, you’d see the main problems are already fucking fixed and “the party” is finally on our side again.

I first posted this comment on !michigan!michigan@midwest.social

His win, however slim, represents a significant shift for the Democratic Party; in 2018 he lost the gubernatorial primary to now-Gov. Gretchen Whitmer by 21 percentage points.

This is by no means the only article I’ve seen that mentions this. But what people seem to fail to remember is that at that time there had begun rumblings that if El-Sayed won the Democrat nomination there would be legal challenges to his candidacy. Michigan law requires one to have been a registered Michigan voter for 4 years prior to the election. While El-Sayed had registered to vote when he was 18 in Michigan, and never removed from the voting roles, he had registered and voted in New York like 3 years earlier when he was studying at Columbia.

Even the Republican Secretary of State indicated that she would not interfere with a party’s nominating process and that if such a decision were necessary about any party’s nominee it would only be taken up after their nomination.

After that came to light his poll numbers dropped significantly with Democrats fearing they would end up no one on the ballot. Personally, I doubt it would have gone that way, but people are scared.

      The DNC

You know the chair has complete authority and no accountability…

      Right?

And that he’s supporting El-Sayed just like Mamdani?

Abdul El-Sayed is a dedicated public servant who fought to make government work for Michigan families. Now, he is ready to take that fight to the U.S. Senate.

      Congratulations, Abdul! Let’s win this.

Like, El-Sayed is literally the type of candidate the DNC chair has gone on record multiple times saying is what the party needs…

Are you just unaware of all this? I can’t imagine someone making the comment you did unless they were ignorant of the last 18 months

Yeah, I’m not looking forward to watching T.V. for the next 3 months. Might have to pay for YouTube premium just to avoid the ads.

Do your part soldier and watch and click on every one of those ads so AIPAC pays. Every bullet you take is one not fired at a confused grandma.

I don’t think that is how YouTube ads work, is it? I’m always for taking the phone calls of jackasses, particularly signing up to volunteer so they keep calling, because they are only so much time in a day and I’d rather they spend it on me rather than on someone who might be convinced by their ramblings.

You can use ublock origin on firefox browser, or if you have android, you might look into youtube morphe (you download morphe manager, and that patches the actual youtube app to remove ads)

Putin has an asylum program for delusional Americans that you’re free to make use of.

I’d be genuinely shocked if they are actually from here. The ones on the right would not make that kind of nuanced distinction and most of us regular folk to the left of whatever extreme-far-right shit passes for center these days and who are living this hell are already far too familiar with the use of propaganda-based purity tests, hence the down votes.

There are other pointers, like the minimal account age, but I think you can probably see it for yourself if you’re inclined.
