Goodness, this is an incredible article. Here’s the first paragraph - which I’ve purposely split into three to facilitate reading.

We give thanks this Sunday for a nifty little reminder that it only apparently takes thousands upon thousands of Americans screaming at a member of Congress for weeks at a time to make that congressman–a senator, in fact–publicly acknowledge the headlines about his own daughter’s (and granddaughter’s) claimed abuse at the hands of her former husband, who is naturally another Republican congressman.

We’re talking of course about junior Ohio Sen. Bernie Moreno, recently vying for the title of the most pathetic man in Congress, given that he spent several years pretending not to know anything about the fact that his daughter Emily Moreno had accused her congressman ex-husband, Ohio Rep. Max Miller, of repeated emotional and physical abuse of her and their two-year-old daughter.

Despite knowing all about this for at least the last two years by his own admission, Bernie Moreno intentionally went out of his way not to say a bad word about the fellow GOP congressman who was his former son-in-law, instead tacitly supporting his reelection in the upcoming November midterm elections, in a race that was until recently seen as a very safe one for Republicans. Not so much, now.

Isn’t this the same Colombian-born chucklefuck who was pushing for a law that banned dual citizenship, just to ingratiate himself to the far right of the GOP?

    Yeah, it is that guy.

Holy shit, I know there are lot of wonderful people from Colombia. Sad that we ended up with this turd as a US senator!

Conservatives are bad people. They value in-group solidarity and personal power more than anything else. Cartoon villains.

I absolutely agree, though the reasonable side of me just wants to note that while Conservatism is evil as an ideology, being conservative (little c) isn’t inherently bad and, in fact, is required in order to be properly progressive; you cannot build a proper future without a solid foundation. Conserve what works, discard what weighs you down, build newer and better, rinse repeat. See: boiling water for power meme.

Modern right-wing movements are a global net negative on society, but I just hesitate to fully endorse blanket statements like yours because while the overall movements and ideologies tend to be oppressive and bad for society, there are still sensible elements and issues raised that are worth considering.

That said, if the Republican party got Thanos Snapped tomorrow my antisocial autistic ass would throw the biggest party in the world with open invitations. I’ll make pizza, you just bring the dough.

It’s really a marketing coup for Conservatives that that’s what people think conservative means. Unfortunately, that’s not what conservatives typically mean. And when it is, their idea of “what works and what weighs you down” is usually like “let’s not let women vote”

    Ummm…

I think it gets worse. It seems Republican Senator Bernie Moreno even betrayed his own son for President Pedophile. This news article referenced in my other comment below, recounting back in the day when he created that gay sex profile points this out:

So it seems he’s quite a horrible person to his family.

    EDIT: clarification

He’s okay with rubbing elbows with known pedophiles, he doesn’t give a flying fuck over the abuse of women and little girls.

He’s only responding because he probably saw an internal poll that showed it was eating away at his own popularity, so it was finally time to throw his dickhead son-in-law under the bus.

Thats wild. This is the kind of thing one would put their life behind if they believed it and would be willing to lose it over the fact. All the blood, sweat, and love I have poured into mine, if someone treated them like this I’d mentally and physically lose it. The fact this guy doesnt even care, I can’t comprehend it.

Image the laws he’s willing to pass for women. Removing voting rights from married women with the “save act”. Works for a party that is openly calling for the removal of divorce rights and pushes child marriages. And he’s actively trying to remove reproductive rights from women. This guy doesn’t give a shit about his daughter nor granddaughter.

To rise to the supreme peak you need to care about thing except advancing. No family, friendship, empathy, love, justice, freedom, sex. Only greed. Every decision you make has to be in the stratagem of gaining and maintaining power. Any alternative thought is just a distraction and costs you valuable time or political capital. Only then do you even have a chance to rise to the very top. Ideally you’re even lying to yourself. If it helps you to appear to care about family, do so. If not, ignore them.

This is why we’re ruled by the worst people.
