I’m a developer since 20 years and been trying out vibing godot and I expected it to have troubles with Godot but at least getting basic programming paradigms right but it has been more the other way around. I’m constantly policing it for hardcoding or creating unmaintainable messes where the base classes have exceptions for each child instead of them owning their own logic.

It’s not their fault that it happens, but failing to act on it is like inviting that kind of behaviour. When I was a restaurant manager I had a talk to anyone being rude to my staff. It didn’t happen often and they always apologized so no need for further action but not standing up for your staff is totally on the manager and it spills on Matt and Trey for failing to address it.

I’m a huge fan of theirs and I really hope they take control of the situation. Sure they didn’t see the renovation costs would end up this big but I don’t think they went into restaurant business to make money.

The power move here would be making an episode about two funny dudes who end up getting blind sided by money, buy a for fun restoration project and not realizing that they’re not the good guys anymore. Bonus points if the episode ends with them doing a 360 and meeting union demands.

Yeah. Unless an efficiency miracle happens or the tooling improves to such extent that the end product is worth the cost this bubble will pop shortly. The fact that the LLM companies are losing money on every token sold makes it hard to believe that they are looking to adjust prices downward anytime soon.

I presume that if there are use cases that the LLM is extraordinarily capable of that makes it more efficient than the standard procedures that could be what drives LLM usage forward. From what I’ve heard a lot of document normalisation has LLM in it’s pipelines and probably there are other areas that can take a price hike but I doubt it’s enough to justify the data center boom.

I’ve been vibing a bit in my spare time, and in the beginning I didn’t look too much at the cost because I was more interested in quickly reaching some sort of mvp state but then I had to manually troubleshoot a thing and wow it was so full of hardcoded bullshit, which was so insanely far from how I was im envisioning it.

I had to backtrack a lot and then started doing like you and tell it what I wanted the code to look like.

I’m making a game and I just ai for parts of the code and and for assets currently. I make it because I’m 43 and been programming my entire life and yet never took the time to make a game.

If I ever were to release it on any store, I’d replace the assets with human made and declare that I’ve had LLM assistance in coding, no matter if there’s a role about it or not.

Basically I know it’s important to some people and I don’t want them to accidentally spend money on something they hate. It would be like sneaking meat into a vegetarian dish.

Twenty-five years ago I drove taxi for a few years and during training they were very clear that relying on gps prohibits you from learning. Taxi people knew that.

For the last fifteen years I’ve been a software engineer and in this field, the ability to pick up and maintain knowledge are cornerstones of the job. Having someone do your tasks for you will degrade your abilities to get said tasks done. CS people knows that.

Management however thinks that we will not need those skills in the future.
