The FBI on Friday began reaching out to donors of Dan J. Sullivan asking about potential deception, as federal authorities ramped up their investigation over the U.S. Senate candidate in Alaska who shares a name with the Republican incumbent.

An Anchorage-based FBI agent visited a boat dealership in Petersburg, a small fishing community accessible only by air or water where the candidate lives. The agent left a business card for Charles Flint, who told The Associated Press he has known Dan J. Sullivan for years as a respected teacher and musician.

The FBI visit came after federal officials confirmed the existence of a criminal probe over the candidate. The U.S. Department of Justice also pushed Friday for a court order to isolate certain Alaska ballots to investigate potential voter confusion.

I thought it was comical that someone pointed out Alaska is a ranked choice state. So if you have a ballot that says

    1. Charlie (R-Incumbent)
    2. Charlie (I)
    3. George (D)

If 10% don’t know what the R or the incumbent mean… Then they pick both Charlie’s and George last the incumbent isn’t hurt by it… Still is considered to be voted for before George

That’s just the cherry on top. I lived in New York when they instituted ranked choice voting, and it could not possibly have been more clear. Anyone who claims that ranked choice voting is “confusing“ shouldn’t be voting in the first place.

And I see headlines like "“Did the Petola Campaign Seal the Fate of Alaska’s Ranked Choice Vote?”
