The reversal of Folarin Balogun’s World Cup suspension is highly unusual. It was the first time since 1962 that FIFA has nullified a suspension for a red card received during the World Cup.

Trump suddenly a fan of birthright citizenship?

The whole US team should be shamed and this player should decline to play. Any wins they have will now be tainted by Trump stank and his corruption.

Aaaaaaaand … Trump just dumped on the whole tournament and put the US team in a worse position than they already were with the bad red card call. If they win now, the win is tainted by controversy and the corrupt stain of Shitfinger. The only way for the team to save face would be to keep him off the field for the game anyway, which would also piss people off. It’s a lose-lose situation and will probably impact the team’s play as well.

They already did! They brought the trophy to a launch event at the White House last year and he decided to keep it. The one they’re using at the tournament is a replica.

If I were them, I’d get that plastic-metallic-coated shit and give that to him to steal, and give the real one to the team.

Just to troll the shit out of him. (But they like him, so eww)

          Unfortunately, the reverse already happened.

Infantino (president of FIFA/the Trump of sports) gave him the original made of precious metals and he kept it. The one awarded to the winning team is going to be a replica 🤬

It was a bullshit red card. First time in 10 years I’ve agreed with Trump.

Edit: lot of downvoters, but not many people disagreeing. The red card was bullshit and so are all of yall.

It doesn’t fucking matter. The decision was done and that is it. Referees are supposed to be neutral for a reason. The leader of the hosting nation is the opposite of that. Fuck him and fuck Infantino. I’m done watching this shit show.

That’s completely besides the point ( and honestly unlikely to be true) A corrupt dictator forced a corrupt sports organisation to alter the outcome of a match. If you don’t see the problem in that… You are part of the problem

        Doesn’t really matter.

They overturned it because Trump asked. Not because it should have been a yellow.

No. Even if it WAS a bullshit red card, plenty of teams have had their tournament affected by bad refereeing. None of them had a suspension annulled since 1962.

This is corruption to curry favor with the despot in charge of one of the host countries, pure and simple.

They fucking should. If it’s a bullshit red card, it should 100% be reviewed and removed.

It was a bs red but no politician should be able to influence the sport like that. It ruins any credibility the event might have had

What is there to review? There’s an entire team with VAR who already decided that dismissal was proportional to the misconduct. That’s how it works.

And if you haven’t already realized it, FIFA only cares about money, so of course they did this, so the event is more “exciting” for the advertisers. It’s pure corruption.

It may as well be a mafia organization. I don’t know what keeps continental federations from building a new FIFA replacement other than further corruption. Maybe the expansion to 48 teams and the unprecedented rescinding of Balogun’s suspension will finally be the guillotine that cut the camel in half.

oh, my. while dipshit is desperately trying to end ‘birthright citizenship’, he is also rooting for and coming to the aid and defense of a player who is literally on and eligible for usmnt because he was a recipient of that very same constitutionally-protected citizenship… when his nigerian parents were denied boarding by an airline as they were returning home 2 mo before his birth. he was instead born in new york before returning to their home in england where he was raised.

yeah I’ve seen soccer fans there is 0% chance any kind of boycott would take place or have any meaningful impact in any fashion

however I support it (as a non soccer fan and as a Fifa disliker)

I’m a football (as it’s actually called) fan and I AM indeed boycotting it.

Haven’t seen a minute of it, haven’t spent a dime on it directly or indirectly.

So there by definition IS a boycott, however small and unorganized.

You’re probably right about meaningful impact, though, since I don’t personally know of anyone else boycotting it 😮‍💨

The world should boycott the world cup! That would be hilarious if accomplished.

I see the way mainstream marketing is raping the authenticity of the sport. It’s sick. It’s hard to see these ads and broadcasters abusing the authentic culture… For any real football heads out there sorry for your loss. America will soon take the joy from you.

FIFA has been loudly siphoning money and influence for the entirety my lifetime. Anyone surprised or shocked at this hasn’t been paying attention to soccer or the owner of the fifa peace prize.
