Most communities are not the sole community related to their topic, there are really often other communities on the same, or similar topics.

An example: there are a tonne of art related comunities, but only a small handful of them have links to other related communities.

It would be great if there was more of a culture of propping up semi-related communities. This would be particularly useful for helping more niche communities get rolling.

sidebars need a lot of love. No one should really be making a community until they are ready to explain what their community is about and not only link to other communities using the proper linking for federation but also wikis and resources and such. I appreciate people running communities but if little effort is going to be put in I rather just not have the community. Now granted some communities do a decent job with the sidebar but its certainly not the norm in the fediverse.

Idk. You also gotta know that people are going to come and join in before you know it’s worth the effort

why? Theoretically people should have an innate interest enough to make a bit of effort worth it. I think a lot of people want something to be a thing but aren’t really into it enough to be making a community about it. Which is fine if they don’t make one but if they are going to half ass one into being it would be better for them not to.

Yeah, you’re right. Minimal useful explanation is necessary. It can always be expanded later too
