Shouts of “he should be shot” could be heard multiple times Thursday night at the Republican midterm convention as Texas Sen. Ted Cruz was criticizing prominent Democratic politicians by name.

See, when we call for murder it’s completely justified because they’re bad people. When they call for murder it’s not justified at all because they’re trying to kill good people.
And they definitely don’t think the same thing about us, because deep down they really know that they’re evil and that they deserve it - they just refuse to admit it. Either that or they’re not people at all, whichever is more rhetorically useful in the moment.
Edit: turns out the guy I responded to is an actual Republican trying to deflect, and not someone going against the grain trying to inject some sanity into the conversation. I’m leaving this comment up because it’s still true, but downvote away.
I don’t think you’re being genuine. You can always find people online saying ridiculous shit. You can’t control that. But when it enters the sphere of “real politics” it needs to be shutdown. I hate the guy, but even Charlie Kirk could do this. It’s a very low bar but I’m not surprised the spineless shitsack Cruz couldn’t clear it.
The politics here are just as real as they are there. What do you think emboldened conservative leaders to spout shit like this in the first place? It’s the fact that their base supports it, and the calls for violence here on Lemmy are no different, except that we’re sympathetic to the reasons.
Conservatives decided that normal people are their enemy and need to be oppressed to death. We turned the other cheek for decades. You can’t act all butt-hurt that we finally agree with you that we are enemies.
