Why are Americans okay with this? The rest of the world is watching y’all just give this madness a free ride. Can you imagine is ANY OTHER president did even a fraction of what he does everyday? What happened to all of you? Did you just decide to roll over and give up your country?

Rest assured that most Americans are not okay with this. Several people have tried to kill this guy and he is wildly unpopular with American voters today:

Throughout 2025 to 2026, Trump’s approval rating has steadily declined to an average of 37 to 39%. In August 2026, Trump was the second most unpopular president at this stage of his presidency in the history of polling going back to the 1940s (the worst being Richard Nixon just days before resigning the office).

Trump’s base is filled with the worst people America has to offer, amplified by decades of extreme and growing wealth inequality. Sadly, the real danger of fascism is that it almost always begins as a populist movement based on extreme grievance. Ironically, it is the same income inequality causing that grievance that is also funding its redirection into right-wing and racist sentiments.

The plan has always been to use Trump’s populist but ultimately meaningless gestures as a distraction from the implementation of extreme Christian Nationalist and White Nationalist policies. However, the more the effects of these policies are seen and harm the American people, the less popular Trump becomes. Republican support is faltering, and there are already rats deserting the sinking ship.

The race is on now to cheat the American people out of the next upcoming elections before MAGA support collapses and the opportunity to form a fully authoritarian government is gone. Americans still have a lot to lose and incredibly, our current Democratic system is still churning away and successfully eradicating fascist elements one by one. So, mass rebellion doesn’t really make sense at this stage of the game especially for Trump’s petty, childish, and ultimately distractionary squabbles.

        37% to 39% approval

You have a different definition of “wildly unpopular” than I do.

By comparison Friederich Merz, the German Chancellor, has a 13% approval rating. Emanuel Macron, the French President, has an approval rating of 18% . Those are politicians I would call wildly unpopular, not people with almost 40% approval. The sad fact is that quite a lot of Americans approve of this.

America has long curated and groomed gullible people to be anti-Enlightenment. To distrust science and facts and critical thinking.

These people are the base. They are the W/Sarah Palin/Nixon floor - the people that approve of the Republican no matter how awful and inept and unqualified the candidate is. When Hillary was talking about “deplorables”, she was talking about this core group.

My guess is that since education here is so hollowed out and so many snake-handlers do things like home-schooling, teaching nothing but the bible, and we still allow white-flight schools so that the insular world they seek is nearly complete - and that as a result we have more of these kinds of people than other countries.

“America” doesn’t necessarily refer to the general population, it can refer to the federal government. In a functioning country, the government would have removed him from office and prosecuted him by now

There’s a quote (from a European) that goes something like «If Americans are so upset, why is nothing on fire?»

To be more helpful, reading Why Civil Resistance Works by Erika Chenoweth would be a place to get some ideas.

Most Americans are about one or two pay cycles away from bankruptcy. We also lose our healthcare w/o a job. Having conservatives “cancel” your livelihood may result in complete economic devastation, including homelessness.

I’m not sure where everyone on this thread is from, but that is the situation that I think keeps even the outraged mostly docile here in the United States.

As shitty as everything might be, people can quickly find themselves in even more dire situations.

I completely agree - Americans are fucked. But will any of these things change without civil resistance?

Fuck Jefferson, but «The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants» is kinda they way this is headed. Otherwise, 250 years of uninterrupted democracy was a hell of a run.

On the other hand, «Patriotism is a virtue of the vicious» according to Oscar Wilde.

But what do I know. I learned both of these quotes from The Rock (the movie, not Dwayne).

Man, I don’t buy it. Remember BLM during Trump 1? The US had multiple federal buildings actively on fire in multiple cities. That was like 8 years ago, things are worse now, but the best they have is protestors in inflatable costumes.

The answer is quite a bit more simple: Americans are either apathetic, or charitably, fatigued/acclimated.

It was 6 years ago, but which federal buildings in which cities? I was able to find one incident related to BLM in 2020 and federal buildings - in the entrance to the federal courthouse entrance in Portland.

Also, what did that even accomplish? Setting stuff on fire - even if it’s only opportunists that show up to do stupid shit and who had nothing to do with the protest - only built more sympathy for the anti-BLM position.

If there were federal buildings on fire in all 50 states right now it’d only give donnie a pass to do exactly what he and his fascist enablers want him to do - unleash the death squads - deputized right wing authoritarians - on normal Americans.

This deranged pedophile pile of shit will have absolutely no problem unleashing the military on citizens. People are mad but also stuck in a rut of living life, not wanting to lose their life.

While history shows putting your life on the line for things you believe is a common tactic, Americans have been trained methodically for decades to be complacent enough to get by. Given JUST enough freedoms to keep going despite all the undoing they’re attempting.

He’s already done this in Minneapolis with ICE. Only once they came to the realization that nobody was coming to save them did things change. The «don’t tread on me» LARPers don’t seem to have a problem with it though…

You’re absolutely correct - tonnes of pablum readily available on tap to distract/lubricate the wheels.
