YSK that eSIM and FeliCa are different chips.
A Japan travel eSIM (Airalo / Holafly / Ubigi — prices I copied 2026-08-29, re-check checkout) gives you a packet network for maps. It does not add Welcome Suica Mobile. JR East’s Welcome Suica Mobile is 180 days, no refund (as of March 2026). Most overseas Android phones lack FeliCa even when they show an EID and can install the eSIM.
Practical split: plastic IC for gates, eSIM for maps, or an iPhone if you specifically want Suica Mobile.
Dated comparison (Airalo SoftBank +1, Holafly KDDI/SoftBank, Ubigi Docomo): https://before-you-land.tiiny.site/japan/esim/
Disclosure: if you buy Airalo through the notes below I may earn a commission. Holafly and Ubigi links there are official/untracked. I did not invent SKUs; prices copied 2026-08-29 from checkout pages and should be re-checked.
