I’ve been rewatching my favorites (Mr. Robot, Andor, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul) and I’m curious: What is your favorite show of all time? What makes that your favorite?
Star Trek TNG. Without a doubt.
Macgyver is up there, so is Westworld.
Battlestar Galactica ( the newer one)
MASH
The Simpsons.
I grew up at a time when it was the only good show on TV. Now I know 10 seasons of it by rote.
Probably Deadwood.
I like the complexity of the characters - nobody’s truly good, nobody’s truly bad.
I like the how some of the experiences in the show are so universal and some are so peculiar to that time and place.
The performances are all incredible.
I was completely taken with it and still am.
Six Feet Under is the best show I’ve ever seen. The ending is beyond the best I’ve ever seen, it’s perfect.
The Wire and M*A*S*H
This covers a few different genres:
- Arrested Development: I stg it gets funnier each time I watch. Except the Netflix seasons. Those suck.
- Love After Lockup: This is peak reality TV. It’s messy and complicated and absolutely addicting.
- Xena Warrior Princess: I’m bi. Enough said.
As with movies, foods, music, etc. my “favorites” always shift around depending on my mood, but just now off the top of my head:
- Doctor Who
- Star Trek TNG
- Mystery Science Theater 3000 (which is coming back again, again!)
- Monty Python’s Flying Circus
- Bob’s Burgers
- Ghosts (the US version)
Cowboy Bebop (the animated ver) - Just absolute cinema the whole time. Never watched the live action, probably never will. Soundtrack goes so hard and the voice acting in both English and Japanese are unparalleled imo. Such an imaginative and realistic depiction of the future, especially for the time. Thanks a million to Adult Swim for introducing me to my fav show of all time.
I really liked the live action Cowboy Bebop. But then, I never watch the anime. Then again, I don’t mind remakes and format changes, so long as it is still well made.
Scrubs, the good place, star trek tng/ds9, doctor who, torchwood
- Frieren
- ATLA
- Firefly
ATLA is the GOAT.
Firefly - I’m not into it, but my wife fucking loves it. She had a Firefly wedding, like all themed and stuff. Which I don’t understand but whatever.
That’s wild. So you don’t particularly care for the show, but it was presumably the theme for your wedding as well? Or was this a previous marriage?
Not my wedding, haha. Her previous wedding. Our wedding together was conducted by a gay pastor in a park.
And I send her ex-husband a “fuck you” message once a year, along with a picture of his ex wife happy in glorious locales.
So… funny story. Before I ever watched frieren, I bought a T-shirt about that series in Akihabara. Then when we got home we watched the first season and I regretted not buying several amazing figures from the series while I was there.
Mr. Robot. I’m super into the sometimes cheesy “fuck society” mentality. And everything that happens in that show either could or has already happened in reality.
After reading all the replies, I’m just here to add:
- Rome
- OZ
- The Wire
And a global mention to 90’s and 00’s Sci-Fi !
Tough call. Absolutely depends on mood but right now I’d say Bojack Horseman. One of the few shows that got better all way through and ended at exactly the right time.
