You know, shit on the toilet seat, piss on the floor…why do they do it?
And not to be rude but I’m not looking for everyone’s speculations as to why. I’m curious if there’s anyone with firm knowledge about their motivations, either because they know someone who does it or because they do it themselves.
Is there a psych term for that? I’ve definitely known folks who are ridiculously spiteful like that.
In the case of teens, it’s usually just a case of boundary pushing. I did a lot of property vandalism as a teen, because bored and angry. It was also something I only did socially, as in with friends, and yeah we all did it because we were bored and angry and smashing and breaking shit feels great.
It all stopped once we got jobs, cars and had more freedom, which meant we were not bored and angry anymore. Also we started doing drugs to fill the void. When we were pre teens we didn’t have access to drugs. So going to some junk lot or construction site and smashing up shit was the way to get high.
And yeah, of course as 12 year olds, we had no notion of how our actions might have impacted other people. The one thing we were super careful about was fire though, we never lit shit on fire because we know that could have very bad consequences.
I wouldn’t hold it against kids. We all know what it’s like to be adolescent and angry.
I’m not sure if there is an official term for it, but it falls under pure “spitefulness” or a “dog in the manger” mindset.
Everyone did stupid stuff when they were young, but there’s a big line between kids making noise out of boredom and people acting with total spite toward total strangers. Doing things that can cause direct physical harm to others and acting indifferent about it seems to be more common these days. The number of hit-and-runs in the news is a simple way to track it, IMHO.
