old.news now but still funny
Lol republicans got what they wanted. Nobody knows fucking anything.
I’m pretty sure half of America can’t spell the word “commemorate”.
Hey it’s a tough word, all them "m"s
ComM&Ms
ComM&Meorates. Because of new corporate branding initiatives brought to you by the current administration every word that can be spelled with a branded property shall be.
Revolution will now be spelled ReVOLVOlution
Costly will be COSTCOstly
Affordable will now be FORDable
And most importantly Belligerent will now be TACOBELLigerent.
So don’t be TACOBELLigerent and FOCUS on spelling your corporate words CORActly
“Welcome to Costco, I love you”
The F-250 pick up, obvs.
How could it be that and the whopperito?
Thanks.
Not funny but shocking and quite a bit frightening.
Too much depends on American citizens making informed and grounded decisions for the whole rest of the world to find that even remotely funny.I know this is going to be compared to Jim Crow lows and such to keep minorities from voting. But I think we seriously need to pass a basic skills test to vote. If they can’t pass basic shit like name 5 states, what year was the declaration of independence sighned, ect basically super basic shit people should know then they shouldn’t vote because there is no way they understand why they’re voting for whoever or what they’re voting for.
It’s not even a conservative vs liberal argument, there are some seriously moronic people on both sides that need to be excluded. I honestly think we’ve cheated natural selection so long it’s like Idiocracy.
I’d rather US politicians be required to pass the US citizenship exam
THAT would empty a lot of seats! I’m down for it. Heck I’d probably struggle, but also I wield little to no civic control over people’s lives in my region sooo… Great power, great responsibility amirite?
I feel like a lot the reason for this is likely tied to the DOGE cuts that cut funds for local and state authorities. 250th anniversary plans all over the US were cancelled because their funds were cut. So nowhere around town did I see any signs or anything celebrating our 250th anniversary. The local 4th of July fireworks show was very underwhelming this year as well.
Like I knew it was our 250th anniversary, but I never truly realized it until afterwards. I realized that the reason for that was that there was no hype over it, no build up or anything.
There were things planned, but then the orange skidmark was making it all about HIM, and (normal) people checked the fuck out. I think normal people just got a sick feeling in their stomach when they realized this stupid ape would be in the WH during the 250th anniversary.
yeah wow, it’s enough to make it seem big on the internet and tv nowadays apparently
According to a survey from the libertarian Cato Institute think tank…
This is all a bunch of ideological bullshit, isn’t it?
This civic ignorance extends to basic governance: Nearly 60% do not know the main purpose of the U.S. Constitution is to limit government power…
Yep.
From the bottom of my heart, Cato and NPR and all these smug dipshits who want to call everyone else ignorant because we’ve got better things to do than give a shit about their tired ass mythologies can go fuck themselves. Fucking morons wonder why people don’t have more respect and reverence for the country like the last 50-60 fucking years of history didn’t happen.
Fucking morons wonder why people don’t have more respect and reverence for the country like the last 50-60 fucking years of history didn’t happen.
I think they would argue that it is the ignorance of the constitution and the lack of respect which has made the decline possible. The lack of accountability especially!
It’s All Countries Matter Day, iirc?
I mean, yeah I can understand it’s confusing when what “250” would represent is totally different to what the Trump admin wants out of the event (250 million people giving their attention to the loser-in-chief).
Not very surprising to me.
This is my thought as well. Trump made it a big deal about him. I’m not surprised many people didn’t know it was actually an anniversary.
But it was! I just don’t know where that 250 number comes from, it should be 80.
It’s just a number.
It’s just a way for merch sellers and event organizers to make money off an arbitrary milestone.
https://www.aap.com.au/factcheck/empires-strike-back-against-false-250-year-claim/
there was discussion that empires usually collapse after 250 years but it’s kinda nonsense
Democracy without education will end in disaster.
Democracy without education isn’t democracy.
Has ended in disaater**
The continuing triumph of oligarchs-billionaires over average citizens while founding documents proclaim “all men are created equal”.
Some men are just more equal than others.
Three different ones.
I truly doubt the validity of the poll. My guess is people thought this is a dumb poll and said no they didn’t know what it meant.
If you live in the US it’s very hard to not know what America 250 means or commemorates.
I agree with this one. I don’t think most people are quite that dumb. When I see these polls I’m reminded of the local television news stations that do these ”on the street” Interviews of local high schoolers asking things that should know and probably went through 10 people in order to get one person who was clueless for the broadcast.
I mean I don’t either to be perfectly honest. Ostensibly its supposed to be 250 years since the DoI but the whole thing seems to be more about stroking a demented pedophiles ego
Well, yes, that is what he turned it into.
Is this a meme?
well it’s the u.s. so yeah
It commemorates that a country with the identical name used to exist here and was founded 250 years ago.
