lol no I was joking, but I did subscribe to this guy specifically because I was curious about the concept, like I read the comments and I can’t tell if people are role playing or they actually think it’s a real guy (and as I said, it might actually be and I was the actual fool).

Yeah, I won’t even waste my time arguing, I just ask that you understand that it’s possible for people to disagree with this, as absurd as it may sound to you. I don’t think you’re acting on bad faith but you have no idea how absurd this claim sounds to me, if you want to assume bad faith that’s your problem.

But the point of my comment is: I can block lemmy.world if it bothers me enough, or I can not block it if it doesn’t bother me enough. And I don’t need to make a whole rant about it. That’s immature as fuck.

I’m curious, what problem do you think this would solve that regular blocking doesn’t? I mean, I’m an emacs zealot user, I genuinely think everything that could be done through a plain text file should be done through a plain text file, lol, but other than some tiny convenience when creating new accounts, what do you think this could achieve?

I don’t like Russia but people supporting Russia doesn’t bother me near as much as people supporting the US/West. Yet I still haven’t blocked lemmy.world which is not only blatantly pro-west, but so heavily biased that most people legit think they aren’t, like I can tell they’re being sincere.

And if I ever block it or any instance/community/user, I won’t make a fuss about it, I’ll merely enjoy the peace of mind of not dealing with them. I’m happy for you that you won’t have to deal with these people anymore, I’ve blocked a few communities and instances as well and I love the fact we’re able to do it, that we get some level of control over what we see on our feed as opposed to some algorithm forcing us to pay attention to stuff that hurts us. But this post is immature as fuck. Grow up.

Not a boomer but I follow a thirst trap guy on youtube who I was always sure was AI (like fully artificial, not based on a real person), but then he posted a really messy video (like imperfect skin, not fully shredded, awful lighting, messy room that didn’t look glamorous) and now I’m no longer sure, like there’s a chance it’s a real guy recording himself then asking AI to make him look flawless. Which means I may have been thirsting over a human all this time, ugh.

The point is I knew AI could improve real videos or generate realistic videos from scratch, but I assumed it was still easy to tell one from the other. Well, turns out either AI is now able to generate messy videos from scratch (that truly look low quality/effort) or it’s able to make real videos look like they were made from scratch. So I genuinely don’t trust myself to distinguish what’s AI anymore. And I’m around 30, so I don’t even have the age excuse.

That’s what annoys me the most with the nothing to hide crowd. You only have nothing to hide until they decide to go after something you have. I’m an LGBT person, I’m always one bad election away from having something to hide that could cost me my life. I see plenty of moralists who do tiny, widespread tactics to circumvent business taxes, and it’s so normalized here that they legit don’t realize they already have something to hide. Like yeah, realistically I wouldn’t expect the government to go after those people any time soon, but how the fuck are you literally breaking the law and literally every one of your customers know and you still think you have nothing to hide? I legit don’t understand those people.

In your country that’s the excuse they use. In mine it’s scams. My country was choosen as one of the pilots for google’s new developer verification program. It’s later getting to your country as well. Scams and school shootings are real issues, yet very different ones, but somehow they both get the same set of “solutions” that don’t solve anything. It’s very naive of you to think they wouldn’t have found another excuse if that one didn’t exist.

I upvoted the comments disagreeing with you but couldn’t downvote yours because sometimes I feel the same way even though I don’t think that way. It’s so frustrating that people keep using those platforms. In my country I literally can’t ditch whatsapp because otherwise my family can’t reach me in an emergency. And when they get a new number they just assume I’m going to see it in their instagram post. How many times I only found out someone got a new number after asking who is the unknown number sending me instagram or tiktok links on whatsapp. Doesn’t matter how many times I explain, it just doesn’t fit in their minds the concept of someone not having an account on those platforms.

I second this, learn emacs and you will never bother learning any other software (because you’ll be too busy learning emacs for the rest of your life).

I’ve only been here for a few days and most of what I see is people discussing reddit or the fediverse. The most content I got that wasn’t about either was from that bot that crossposts reddit posts here. I don’t know if it really makes a difference which instances people join if all they’re gonna miss is a few defederated instances’ comments on drama between instances.
