You’re correct about this. I was just looking it up myself.
There is indeed international maritime law governing vessels, and they must proceed with all possible haste to distress signals. Unfortunately, there are two problems here as I understand the situation:
Zuckerberg’s yachtfucks apparently said that they noticed the distress signal eventually, but by the time they had, the Coast Guard had already arranged assistance for the skiff.
So, sadly, for those of us who want to see the billionaires get their comeuppances, I don’t think we’ll see it here.

Sure, I bet we can keep it from getting worse. I’ll be here waiting patiently for some billionaire corpo to decide to do something for the environment over profits while we keep using our paper straws. I might nod off so wake me up when it happens.

What actions are being taken though - by the people who can actually make a difference? Governments are reversing to mining coal. Trump is illegally drilling Greenland for oil. Like, what actions are actually being taken for our great grandchildren?
Many scientists say it’s too late. That’s my point.

We’re talking about human-accelerated climate change here. We’re not talking about naturally-occurring events.

I hate to burst anybody’s bubble but we’ve seen these exact headlines for decades. It’s become increasingly clear that those who can make a real difference with climate change are not interested in doing so.
We’re already irreversibly fucked as a planet.

Watch the White House basically lie in ruin for the next (sane) president to have to clean up. America, y’all gotta figure your shit out down there.

Good. My wife and I both had our 13-year-old accounts permanently banned with no appeals process - all because we share an IP address and they decided without evidence that we were evading bans.
Fucking morons over there running reddit.
I… okie dokie.
