I was able to fix a thing at work! And someone said “thank you”! The former happens less often than I’d like.

Define “know”. I know the woman downstairs from me and her dog. I know the couple actually the hall and their dog. They just had a baby and I don’t know the name. I know the guy down the hall from me. He’s a good guy. I know the woman down the hall the other way and the guy on the same side. The other two units are rented on and off. New people. I forgot the name of the two folks that just moved in. Haven’t met the ones on the other side yet.
Knowing names and small things? Is that to know someone?
There are over a million people within 15km of me, so that’s not much.

Honestly, same. :| The memes community is particularly gnarly at times. I wish I could shuffle my account like I can on Masto and keep my old posts.

Green Day’s “Ha ha you’re dead.”
Ha ha you’re dead. The joke is over You were an asshole… And now you’re gone.

I was just playing off your joke. It’s the term for the Vietnam War in Vietnamese. “Resistance War Against America.”

After the Kháng chiến chống Mỹ, I can’t say I blame them.

Former machine learning researcher. Worked on image search, then language modeling for general search. But then VC started throwing money at it and the landscape just kinda’ changed. The research was still great in academia, but a bunch of dipshits took a useful technology and decided to use it as a way to funnel money from everyone into their own coffers.
Now I build stuff to monitor power lines and prevent wildfires.
One thing people don’t usually expect: machine learning isn’t magic. The computer doesn’t just “do the work for you”. There’s a lot of planning, theory, and experimentation around seeing if and why something works.
As long as they let me keep the scan file. I love me some volunetric data.
