Not really; only when somebody uses peertube to share a video

I just recently joined Lemmy; never had a redditt account. Have been using Mastodon for quite a few years now; only ever dabbled in twitter. I like that the fedi stuff seems more organic and less manipulated by algorithms, although, that also makes it easy to miss stuff as well. Still getting a feel for Lemmy and discovering interesting communities. My ultimate social platform was Google Reader (still miss my sharebros/gals. My primary social media after the demise of GR was the comment section, BBS, of BoingBoing – we had a mass departure after the publisher did some petty bans (started our own discourse instance)

Don’t be Afraid of the Dark (1973) scared the crap out of young me… The little creatures lurking in the dark and dragging them away. My older sister reinforcing the fear with stories/teasing didn’t help. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don’t_Be_Afraid_of_the_Dark_(1973_film) I’m sure it would be laughable now, but my sister really knew how to push my buttons.
Whenever there is some viral story about some youtube/ticktock celebrity.

Always love idioms from other languages. Had a book called “Idioms Delight” that explored equivalents from several different cultures/languages.

That used to be my drug of choice

Tulsi (Holy Basil): Has just enough anti-anxiety properties to quiet the inner voice that keeps me up at night.
Sugar is great for when I’m sleepy in the afternoon (good strong black licorice is a good complimentary to that, since it seems to keep my blood sugar from dropping in the first place)
Mom told me that dragonflies would sew my mouth shut.
Was afraid of them until I was at least 6 or so…

Philly used to know what to do with robots…
Poor Hitchbot

Friend mentioned that when a similar thing happened at his University, the frats just had “gatherings” instead of “parties” and that was ok with the administration… (probably decades ago, so a slightly different environment)

I think she just made the classic rookie mistake of swallowing a whole rat before the press conference; tail was probably still in her throat.

When I moved from the Northwoods of Wisconsin to Los Angeles (Burbank), a lot of changes were to be expected… The one I didn’t expect was the total lack of thunder n lightning despite rain storms that would flood the streets. I think I was out here at least 6 years before I heard any thunder and that was a one-time event. Been here for almost 29 yrs now, and I can probably count the number on one hand.

The wilds; they call… Pretty sure I could be a happy well-adjusted hermit, but my wife and family keep me from running off to amass my racoon army. I focus my energy on creating a backyard jungle that lets me pretend that I’m not trapped in suburbia.

“Maintains consistent snacking preferences” the most specific one “Owns rasps” If it really got me, it would call me out on what I usually use Amazon for… Last minute project stuff.

Can you please fix me so that I can say “no”?

Heck of a way to find you that you’re immortal.

I have a friend who had developed an expert system for scoring certain lab samples (for cancer). It was a very good system that had few errors and was used for a couple decades. Somebody decided to replace it with an AI system (undefined what sort of AI) and it ended up doing a lot of false negatives, so the lab got sued for missing a lot of cancer diagnoses. Friend’s final task before leaving the company was to update his old model and hire somebody whose primary job was to maintain the old model. On the other hand, a trained monkey (and I’m assuming a LLM) could have done better than the radiologist who looked at my CT scan and said there was no problem, when I could look at it with the basic software they put on your scan DVD and see a fracture across all but a few mm of my sternum. When a different radiologist looked at the scan, he also ID’d several other minor things to follow-up on.
I think Holtec mostly just makes storage containers for spent fuel. They’re not exactly simple, but orders of magnitude less complex than running a plant.
