I am not downvoting only because you are already prepared for that
One should assume everything they say on the internet is public, even “private” messages on a social media app
Factually and sadly - true. But this is not how things should be
The person who sent the message needed that reality check after saying something so stupid
Nah. There is a difference between literal meaning and the real thought and intention behind words
Though this was a false alarm, it showed a semblance of responsibly from a social media company that is typically evil and indifferent
It only showed the company to be evil and indifferent. The evidence towards this interpretation is that at least I have not once heard of any actual crime-about-to-happen they stopped. So they can fuck right off with this
It is not the fault of the social media company that the FBI chose to act on the information
It is their fault for violating their users’ privacy in a manner that does no good and much harm. It is even bigger fault to let any part of the process between “someone sent message” and “it has been reported to officials” be handled by automation without any human overseing. It is going to be even bigger fault if there was actually a human involved and they just let this happen
Oh, they learn all right: “hey, we can pull so much bullshit off and they still pay us. Let’s do more next time”
