Ok so you fundamentally don’t understand that in public places you have no expectation of privacy and can be recorded or photographed without consent in most of the world. You might not like that or agree with it, but that’s how it is.

Glasses are visible, and what I’ve been saying is that there just needs to be legislation and standards around making it obvious when smart glasses are recording.

I’m a tech enthusiast. I love them bleeding edge of tech. I don’t look at a new tech product through the cynical lens that you clearly do. I look at it with an open mind about what it could do and what it could become. Like I said in another comment, people had these same “creep” comments and opinions about cameras on phones, but that thankfully didn’t slow down their adoption and innovation.

Do you just accuse everyone you disagree with of being a “shill”? You have to wonder about what type of person jumps straight to that.

All that is great, and correct, but my point is that it asks you to confirm its commands that it runs. It asks you to confirm every change it makes to your code. It asks you to confirm every file it creates.

Everything it does goes through your permission.

You also shouldn’t have it do anything anywhere close to a production system, so it shouldn’t be able to do anything of any consequence.

Why do people pretend like every product has to “solve a problem”? That’s complete rubbish.

There are multiple ways to prevent this, they just haven’t implemented any of them yet because the pushback hasn’t been loud enough, nor has anything been legislated.

People felt the same way about phone cameras at one stage. You might not be old enough to remember, or might not have even been born.

Phones in Japan had to be made so you couldn’t disable the shutter sound when taking a photo.

One thing I’ve really learned over the years is that a huge percentage of the population has virtually no ability to think ahead even a few years in terms of tech, let alone long term. I guarantee you that smart glasses are going to be as ubiquitous as smart phones and smart watches in a decade or 2. They are the natural evolution of the smartphone, or as an everyday wearable.

You must also be thinking of the older one which was crap. This is the current one which has clicky physical buttons that also can act as a gesture pad, and a mute button.

The current remote has physical buttons that have a track pad over the surface of them. You can completely disable the track pad and gestures and just use it like a plain old remote if you want. The gestures-only remote was replaced years ago, thankfully.

I’m not sure how much AI stuff you’ve used, but they can’t access anything you don’t give them permission to access. Like they literally ask you to confirm every single command they run. If you press the “have full access and don’t ask me any more questions” button then you’re accepting the risk that it can do whatever it likes.

Well the chances of a doctor wearing meta raybans is near 0%, so I guess this doesn’t happen and we can move on.

It’s not about “owning your stack”.

Idiots using things incorrectly and getting bad results is not an AI created problem. When you get a dog, you are responsible for what it does. When you use AI, you are responsible for what it does.

If you don’t know how to use a chainsaw, don’t use one and then blame the manufacturer when you cut your leg off.

It’s not at all like that, because guns and knives are different and give different results. You can buy any number of “spycam” glasses online whenever you want.

Laws already exist around using them in private settings. They also exist around using them in public settings too - you have no expectation of privacy in public, because you’re in public. You can’t stop someone taking your photo while you’re walking down the street.

But as we see with drive assistants, the person in the drivers seat (or the registered owner of the car) is responsible.

The person that asked it to do something and gave it permission to do it.

But in that analogy, the knife routinely asks you to confirm if you want to fire bullets or not.

AI does nothing without people telling it what to do, and giving it permission to do it.

Things don’t need to solve problems to be amazing and revolutionary.
