I think the stat is for every 8 people we execute one is exonerated from death row.
That’s just not accurate enough for it to be a viable solution. Life in prison can at least be reversed if you get it wrong. If you kill somebody there are no take backs, and our legal system is too imperfect for permanent punishments.
