The decision to halt production of Tesla’s polarizing polygonal pickup marks the end of an error.

Elon Musk, in a post on X, has officially called time on the Cybertruck, stating that “Tesla will be winding down production of the Cybertruck at Gigafactory Texas around the middle of next year to make room for increased Cybercab production.”

Produced for less than four years, the polarizing pickup is seemingly dying as it lived, with the news being greeted in a flurry of replies in praise of the EV as well as deriding it. James Star, claiming to be a Tesla employee, posted that it was “the saddest news! Cybertruck (was) the best car Tesla sold,” right next to a user called Captain Ford who simply replied to Musk with “Fuck that shitbox.”

If it had actually been a decent vehicle then at least it’d have that. But no, it’s full of problems, recalls, and traps people inside and burns them to death.

The Ford Pinto was killed for less. It’s not like we don’t know how to make safe cars, yet somehow Tesla is allowed to get away with so much.

Existing Cybertruck owners will have fun sourcing parts as they break down.

There are a lot of unsold Cybertrucks. The only reason so many even sold was because Musk used SpaceX to buy much of the inventory

If there’s demand for the parts, they’ll be able to get them for a good while

It’s gonna be hilarious when they can no longer get parts in 5 years. They’ll still swear to the quality of Tesla though.

  • It was never allowed to drive on the road in Europe so I only ever saw it once at a car show. It was uglier up close. We were not allowed get close or touch it unlike all other cars on that show. My guess is that greasy fingers are not good for the body and hard to clean.

There are a least five near where I live that I see. They all look ridiculous, but the ones that haven’t been wrapped look horrible. The stainless steal is definitely not stainless.

The only one that makes a little sense is owned by a sneaker shop and has a branded wrap. They use it to tow their showroom trailer to various events and using it for a billboard that tows seems reasonable.

Maybe I’m a bit obsessive but I can’t help but think of any tesla owner as a fascist.

Don’t care if you bought one before Musk went mask off.

These things are much worse in this way than the sedans - it’s a very public approval of musk, because they were his personal project or whatever.

I’d never buy anything from that shoe shop for this reason, and I don’t think I’m alone.

They were such good social markers though. It made it much easier for rich morons to tell on themselves.

As Musk moves on, another failure behind him, chasing the next shiny upon which he’ll never deliver. Let’s pour one out for future investors who will continue to pour money into his ketamine fuelled Ponzi scheme. Chasing returns, thinking of the future, not the trail of broken promises.

This is a product that shows why there shouldn’t be any billionaires: These people live completely detached from reality—and their narcissistic hubris makes them a danger to any civilized society. Musk, like all the other PayPal billionaires—Thiel, for example—is the best example: They are mentally ill individuals who feel validated by their financial success.

This is by no means their achievement, but rather a flaw in the system that grants power to these people, who have done nothing more than happen to be in the right place at the right time with money. They simply should never have this kind of power, because they are antisocial in the truest sense of the word.
