Obviously should happen. But i’ll be surprised if it does.
spoiler alert: They wont
the uniparty system wont allow the duopoly to end.
Hahahahahah… Oh, that’s rich!
Downvote me if you must, but just go see Minority Leader Jeffries’s comments downplaying the agenda most of us think should be priority… Like finally holding government officials to account for pedophilia, corruption, and treason. Apparently that’s too “revengey” for their billionaire handlers.
Yep. Jeffries’s hasn’t even gotten the official promotion yet and he is already putting in the work to make sure the Democrats are the minority party again in 2028.
Democrats can release the Epstein files right now.
Would it be “legal”? Probably not.
Anyway, leak it now, stop hiding behind the law you weenies.
I agree with Jeffries that impeachment should not be a priority. Vance would pardon, there’s no point to it. Just investigate until Democrat President takes helm in two years.
Trump will likely be dead by then, but his enablers can be brought to justice.

To be fair, this is talking about the number of state governments that have flipped, not Federal.
I did miss that nuance, but not sure it impacts the ability of the parties to do something this radical.
The allusion is to the state-level pact several states have made to always assign their electoral votes to the winner of the popular vote in their state. With Texas and other flipping, that makes enough states to be over 270 votes, meaning if all those new blue state governments join the compact, the EC essentially doesn’t matter anymore.
And it doesn’t need to include Texas
On Tuesday, Democrats took control of state legislatures and governorships in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Arizona, Wisconsin, and Nevada, all states that haven’t agreed to the compact. If all five vote to join, then the total number of electoral votes apportioned based on the national popular vote jumps to 283.
I am enlightened! Appreciate the response.
Any thoughts on how binding such a pact is?
Bad news there I’m afraid, some people think it might even be unconstitutional, but because it’s never triggered it’s never been tested. It’s probably a safe bet that if it ever did trigger the Republicans would set their own children on fire summoning the best lawyers hell can offer.
There is nothing in the Constitution that says how states must choose their electors based on the outcome of the vote, whether it’s by districts or statewide, and it says nothing about how or whether electors are allocated to the runners-up. In fact, it just says it’s up to the states how they conduct their elections. The only requirement (not in the original text of the Constitution for Senators) is that they hold elections.
That might not prevent the Extreme Supremes from making shit up, as they did with presidential immunity, but apart from that kind of fuckery, it should be fine.
That kind of fuckery is exactly the problem we’re facing though, which is why this is tenuous.
do it. stop the idiotic gerrymandering bullshit
Getting rid of the electoral college does not change anything about gerrymandering. The EC is for electing president. Gerrymandering is only possible for electing district representatives. But yeah, one step at a time.
It drives people in areas where they feel their vote doesn’t matter to have incentive to vote. It’s not necessarily gerrymandering, but it’s a voter suppression tool for sure and needs to go.
I even went out of the way to add “one step at a time” to make it clear I agree it is a good change, just not related to gerrymandering and you still feel the need to state the obvious? 😩
thats why we need to be rid of it. treat us all like a single district with no racial/ethnic restrictions prohibiting any legal voters from excercising their right to vote
A big problem that I have with the discourse when political races are covered is that the press calls it as if it is a contest between candidates and not one where the voters are the actual active element.
In a football game, fans watch and cheer.
In an election citizens vote. When their will is not respected and they are forced to accept compromised representation, this is essentially a loss for the only team that matters.
Voters, citizens… people, not parties are what should be getting lauded for this immense expression of public will. The people said “no” to Trump and to Republicans.
Now, what politicians need to do is figure out what people actually want and figure out how to communicate it in a way that gets them elected next time.
This sounds generic, but it isn’t. The Democratic Party establishment NEEDS to have a full and active debate within itself about what the people actually want.
If the progressives prevail and what gets presented to various constituencies are things in line with AOC and Bernie and if it is legitimate appealing to the majority of voters, then great.
If they do their typical bullshit thing of trying to appeal to Boomers that don’t can’t about politics to have real opinions (and barely bother to vote) then they might get lucky and the Republicans will just put out more slinky turds in ties for the next election, or someone will figure out that charismatically complaining and making empty promises (the Trump formula) will work again and again to draw morons and frustrated people out to vote.
The problem with direct democracy is the volatility. The problem with representative democracy is the indirection, and the consequent growth of a self-serving political class.
By all means, vote to shut down the Electoral College. Shame that was not on the ballot.
Hakeem Jeffries needs to go first. Let’s look back at his awful speech on election night, just to get started.
Standing in front of a crowd of well-wishers and hopefuls, he delivered a speech. A speech that will go down in history as a big ole nothing burger. A speech that is now, less than 12 hours later, largely forgotten in the political and collective memory of an otherwise monumental moment. I surmise this is because he lacks the commanding presence and leadership qualities necessary to serve as Speaker of the House.
His charisma, if it can even be called that, is more akin to that of a Home Depot bag of paver sand. You search through the poorly stacked pile selecting the one with the least holes. Yet, despite that effort, it still spills it’s contents all over the cart on the way to the register. Not a good look.
If that does not speak for itself, then consider this. As a potential Speaker, Mr. Jeffries would face the immense challenge of uniting a fractured party that has not managed to maintain a large and diverse tent of voters since Debbie Wasserman Schultz declared Bernie a non-starter. Mr. Jeffries is simply not capable of standing firm in the face of political opposition. Don’t take my word for it. Perhaps, instead, the ever present consumer advocate Ralph Nader may sway you:
More introspection may lead you to ask yourself whether you are up to leading the House Democrats in their immense and immediate tasks of policy and program restorations and adopting our Constitution’s mandated Congressional independence from the Presidency for the protection and advancement of the livelihoods, peace and freedoms of the American people. There is no indication that you are so willing and prepared. Unfortunately.
His record in Congress has not demonstrated the kind of bold, decisive leadership that the position of Speaker demands. Instead, he has often been seen as a cautious, moderate voice. Dare I say, a voice coming from a very real human (I swear) with a spine made of NeeDoh.
Let’s be frank. In times of crisis or when tough decisions must be made, the leader of the Democratic Party and Speaker of the House is not merely about personality. I understand that. Such positions require a deep understanding of the legislative process, the ability to negotiate, and the resilience to withstand the political pressures that come with the position. Jeffries has not consistently shown these traits in his career. For any informed observers, this must raise serious questions about his suitability for such a high-stakes role.
Finally, to convey my firm belief that Mr. Jeffries is not the right person for the leadership role come January, I paraphrase the amazing Forest Whitaker in his role as PFC Edward Garlick in “Good Morning Vietnam”
Hakeem Jeffries sucks the sweat off a dead man’s balls. I have no idea what that means, sir, but it seems very negative to me.
It should be remembered that when the Dems shut down the government, he stayed the course, even as food assistance ended, and people started to get hungry. But we encouraged him to stick to it, so we could make sure our health care system, as mediocre as it was, stayed in place.
But as soon as the shutdown hit the airports, and their Wealthy Donors couldn’t move their operatives around the country, the MAGA comedy act of Schmuck & Jeffries immediately folded, and gave MAGA EVERYTHING they wanted. It was the weakest, most cowardly shit I’ve ever seen.
Schmuck & Jeffries work for MAGA, and they should be investigated as deeply as any MAGA, and we’ll find out they were being paid by someone, probably Israeli, to cooperate.
Yup, we need lions and tigers not ragdoll kittens.
Yeah America has a habit of generating hope … and then crushingly disappointing everyone
I’ll believe it when I see it … otherwise I’m not holding my breath
We’ve also had a habit of razor thin election margins and Republicans in Texas.
It might genuinely kill me if they do it. The sheer surge of endorphins would be comparable to a full plate of fentanyl.
My problem with it would be potential dehydration from continual orgasmic euphoria.
This is unrelated, but I love the creativity in your name. It shows that you have a passion for the arts!
I also appreciate the beauty of OP’s username.
America has a habit of generating hope … and then crushingly disappointing everyone
You’re confusing neoliberals as an only other option to maga…
Anyone with a congressional Dem representative needs to contact their office and tell them they need to support a progressive for leadership.
We can’t afford the bullshit “looking into” that happened under Biden. We need a Speaker and Senate leader willing to put progressive legislation up for votes.
Schumer/Jefferies won’t do that
I have a feeling this will go the way of the filibuster, hope I’m wrong
This can’t, its a state innitiatve. there’s no filibuster, only governors who have state legislative trifectas to vote for it.
Its possible itll get thrown out in the supreme court tho…
We shouldn’t have to listen to an obviously treasonous supreme Court
Here we are again constrained by the very laws everyone broke for ten fucking years. According to SCOTUS, our next president can just drone strike the heritage foundation, SpaceX, Tesla, musk, and all the people we all know we should get rid of, and, because of our majority, can’t be impeached. This means that they can pardon themselves and anyone who helped and we should be good to go. THE REPUBLICANS WANTED THAT AND ARGUED FOR IT IN COURT.
But we will concede to the rule of law and watch Kushner and other democrats influence our politics forever with their island lairs that they bought with OUR MONEY
There’s a line that Interstate compacts are constitutional if “consented” to by Congress. So it’d be like state govs form compact and send a letter to Congress, who acknowledges receipt. I’m sure it’d get challenged but I think the constitution is pretty clear that states select electors who can do whatever they want.
Of course if a state gov changes hands down the line, they can withdraw, but that doesn’t screw anyone over, states will just go back to our current apportionment scheme
The way this has been done by states already is passing amendments that require them to vote yes when it gets enough votes. This means it’s only a few new states that need to pass a law for this to actually happen. Previous states can’t back out.
“Yes well the wheels of the law turn slowly”
Funny how slowly they move when the dems have control and how quickly they move when the republicans do.
the Republicans were doing the neat trick called ignoring it.
And democrats get a neat little smug and a destroyed world for following it.
Maybe you should do this instead of another dog-and-pony impeachment show for the next two years that at most would lead to pardons from President Vance?
(he would take office if you kick Trump out with an impeachment and conviction)
Maybe. I’m not entirely sure on that.
If you just look at the number of red and blue, sure.
Then discount the blue that are overred areas who are mainly there for -war -gas -foodcost. How many of them are going to be honest and vote for their people, those people who would definately NOT vote to dump Electoral college because it has served them well for ages.
Then discount DINO sleepers sitting in Congress who look and talk blue then flip when they are needed?
Then in the same venn circle in many cases, take the remaining blueish moderates who can be bought by your friendly neighborhood oligarch.
We’re blue on paper using binary counting; politics is not a binary sport.
Fucking enby politics

Fighting Republican lunatics is step one.
Step two is fighting all the centrist MAGA Lite Democrats.
So 95% of the party? Yeah, none of the progressive shit is gonna happen. But don’t worry, the progressives “shift the conversation.” Maybe some day the oligarchs will allow their Dems to enact the will of the people.
Some day? The fight is now, comrade.
Totally agree, I was being sarcastic. I should know by know that no matter how obvious I think the sarcasm is, I should still use the /s.
The only slim chance this and other positive changes might happen is if the US population thanks a page from France and protest non stop. Demand the progressive changes until it happens. Show the corporate Democrats that they are done.
Protests aren’t enough, we need to unionize, organize tenant unions, create revolutionary cadres and do socialism. It’s the only way to stop the oligarchs from maintaining their ownership of us.
They’re going to fuck up like they always do and we’ll be back to a Republican majority in no time
They think this election represents support for the Dems, but most people (including reliable Dem voters) still have an unfavorable view of the party. This election was about rejecting Trump, and he won’t be dragging down the Republicans in 2028.
We need to hit the primaries HARD.
The Dem VOTERS did great, AGAIN! We did it in 2020, and kicked MAGA out, and the feckless Biden Admin just let them right back up. Now we’re doing it again in 2026, and this time we’ve made it clear that we expect them to hold MAGA accountable, unlike last time. Nothing less than full commitment to this mission is acceptable.
I thought that would be the only real battle, but now it seems we have to fight off Israel’s attempts to infiltrate our government, as well.
It’s going to be a busy two years.
Same thoughts exactly. I don’t want to see another red tsunami
That was an anomaly.

But they won’t because their leadership wants it. Chuck and Hakeem are corporate dems who like keeping the will of the people in chains.
People hate them more than you think. I think now we just need to doxx the fuck out of the Israeli donors.
But they can’t remove them. People hate lots of things that aren’t going anywhere.
