Democrats have won the Senate majority, a feat that seemed unreachable last year but that came to fruition with Republican candidates failing in states won just two years ago by President Trump, whose failing approval ratings was a huge drag on the GOP.
Victory in the Senate will deliver additional oversight powers to Democrats, who will now have a much bigger say on administration and judicial nominations.
They will also set the schedule for the Senate and have new powers to call in administration officials for hearings.
The string of Democratic victories sets the stage for Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) to return as majority leader in 2027 and for hardball negotiations with Trump on an array of issues, including on federal spending levels.

There will be an election for Senate majority leader. I hope to god he gets replaced. (He won’t)
Also, dem party leadership election can be voted on anytime-- every day if they want to. Its an intra party thing, not a whole congress thing. One fifth of majority party senators need to call for it in the senate, Or 9 members of the majority if its in the house. In the house they can also elect someone external to the house to lead it, although that has never happened before. They could bring Obama back and make him speaker of the house if they wanted to. None of this is hard, but the DNC aka AIPAC likes to pretend its more than it is.
Schumer and Jeffries arent destined or appointed to lead, they are just claiming they think they have the votes for it.
I think putting them in ledaership roles is the surest way for the democratic prty to lose the next presidential election. They are both crooked as hell and incompetent at best, and have very low approval ratings with voters.
To clarify, this is not true for The House of Representatives. Speaker of the House is voted on by everyone in the House.
Here’s an example of the previous vote. As you can see, Democrats put up Jeffries and every (I think?) Dem voted for him. He lost because Dems didn’t have a majority, and the Republican vote didn’t split (they’re smart enough to make sure they agree on one person before putting them up against the Dem candidate).

He’ll very likely be voted leader, baring him like pulling a Haley Stevens or something similarly insane (which he’s likely smart enough to not do)
Maybe he could be kicked out from leadership if he pulls something like what he did with the government shutdown though
