President Donald Trump told voters to pretend he was on the ballot in this year’s midterm elections.

They did. And they resoundingly rejected both his policies and his Republican Party.

Democrats have captured full control of Congress, NBC News projects, with voters delivering a forceful repudiation of Trump’s agenda, coupled with a clear-cut message that Congress has not done enough to provide checks on his administration and needs to do more to address affordability and corruption.

More likely that they will pass shit and trump will veto it, but folks will still get their jollies off saying nothing was done and use it to support JD in 28 or some shit.

Now that I think about, Dems could credibly threaten Trump with impeachment now they have overwhelming majority in both congress and senate.

Yes, they can impeach (put Trump on trial) but they cannot remove him from office. They would need a supermajority of the Senate for that. Trump has already been impeached twice.

The only threat the Democrats have is to make the impeachment trial a public affair and present evidence of Trump’s wrongdoing. They cannot force him to testify under oath due to the Fifth Amendment. It will not do much good since Trump is not allowed to run for reelection.

That requires a super majority and states to accept it. While there are pissed off voters, it’s not nearly enough for a fundamental government shift.

You’re right, but god what I wouldn’t give for a good-faith constitutional convention. Trump has proved that you can’t do this bizarre dance we do in America where the constitution is vague and rickety and relies on jurisprudence, legislation, and unwritten norms, but simultaneously treats the governing documents as holy writ.

Republicans will filibuster everything and Democrats will just fold as usual.
