    The “persecution” that pilgrims faced in Europe was that they were a small extremist minority and didn’t have the numbers to make everyone follow their rules.

    So much this. They created a lot of problems here, too, IIRC.

    Xtian extremism like theirs is precisely why this nation was founded as a secular nation. It’s not like the Founders didn’t notice things like the Inquisition, which was still going on in their lifetimes.

    If the Constitution was written by unhinged zealots like the Pilgrims, their Jesus would be enshrined in the Constitution (the Constitution has no mention of the character of Jesus from the fanfic called “the” bible), and this place would be much much different.
