The “persecution” that pilgrims faced in Europe was that they were a small extremist minority and didn’t have the numbers to make everyone follow their rules.
When they’d try to use violence to make the masses follow their rules was the only time they faced any kind of punishment for their religious beliefs.
So they went to “the colonies” where they believed they could be the majority if they had enough kids, which meant coming down hard on women’s rights.
I bet from an outside perspective, the US really does seem like religious extremists from the beginning.
I mean, from an inside perspective, too.

It’s actually waves of religious extremism. Ebbs and flows. It can be, and has been, fought before. The problem is that it never fully dies out.
I’d like to think that reason can eventually win. If only because the religious extremists keep taking it to, well, extremes. This drives people away from the belief, because why the fuck would you ever believe in the shit the extremists preach?
They tell you that you’re worthless, that you should bow and scrape while they ignore every single tenet of their own religion. Holiness becomes removed from actions and becomes and excuse for terrible behavior.
But then the extremist are forced to back off, or their little sect of greed worship dies out when the grifter claiming to be a preacher dies or gets sent to prison, and the cycle is primed to begin again when a new sect of Christianity pops up to start recruiting in an area, often by first attacking non-Christian education options.

Xtian extremism like theirs is precisely why this nation was founded as a secular nation. It’s not like the Founders didn’t notice things like the Inquisition, which was still going on in their lifetimes.
If the Constitution was written by unhinged zealots like the Pilgrims, their Jesus would be enshrined in the Constitution (the Constitution has no mention of the character of Jesus from the fanfic called “the” bible), and this place would be much much different.
I have a hard time parsing that quote; does it say that MAGA wants to paint early immigrants as pure-hearted missionaries with no material motives, oppressed in Europe because they were “too good”?
The “rather than” confuses me I guess. What’s the difference between the 1st and the 2nd part? It says “persecution” in both.

It’s just weird to say twice in a single sentence that Christians had to settle America to flee persecution because it is weird to say the same thing.

The point of propaganda is to make you stupid. Everyone has been exposed to propaganda of one form or another throughout their life, anyone is susceptible. You don’t have to be stupid to fall for it, but when you do, you are a little (or a lot) more stuoid.
