President Donald Trump has said he does not “give a damn” about potential criticism of his remarks boasting that the United States is making a “fortune” from high oil prices, as American motorists continue to face elevated gasoline costs.

Does anyone remember when politicians actually pretended to work for the people?

I’m older now, and the memory feels dim, but if I sit and think, I can just barely remember a time when politicians realized that they worked for the people.

Citizens United was the point of no return. The people became powerless wage slaves with a mouse whisper voice to influence anything. Corporotacracy achieved adulthood and the people’s slide toward slavery crossed the event horizon.

No. I do however remember questioning people’s sanity when they talked about stupid and incompetent politicians when it was very obvious that they were corrupt but knew very well what they were doing.

Decades later not much has changed. The malicious working against voters has become even more obvious and people still pretend that those corrupt shitbags are mostly just dumb and don’t know any better.

It has long been my opinion that all politicians are either corrupt or stupid, often times both.

Yes, I remember as a kid Carter getting elected. Didn’t understand the politics at the time, but he seemed a nice guy.

You know what is really interesting to watch? Look up old TV political debates from the 60s and 70s. Where they actually debated issues. It’s amazing.

The last one I can remember was the Obama/McCain election in ‘08. There was plenty of mudslinging from the media, (and by extension, the rabble who gets all of their news from a single source), but their actual debates were extremely respectful by today’s standards.

Notably, that was also the last presidential election to happen before the infamous Citizens United SCOTUS decision in 2010, which allowed corporations to spend tons of money on political campaigns.
