In the continuing race to see who can throw transgender people under the bus most quickly, South Carolina Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate Annie Andrews has released a new direct-to-camera campaign ad in which she states that she does not support trans athletes playing in sports that affirm their gender identity.
Am I out of date on definitions already? Doesn’t “biological male” refer to “biological sex,” which while not synonymous with sex at birth is much more closely connected to it than gender?
Biological male is a transphobic dog whistle. And a binary application of biological sex itself isn’t good either, sex is complicated.
Here’s a primer for journalists. It explains that the problem with biological sex is that it is ambiguous and could mean one of several things that may not align.
