For me it’s time signatures in music. I grew up playing instruments, played in several orchestras, etc. But no matter how many times someone tries to explain time signatures to me, it makes no sense. I don’t understand why people place such importance on it. To me, notes have a pitch and a duration, maybe some dynamics. That’s it. I don’t understand why people try to needlessly complicate it. It doesn’t give you anything.
My wife will hear a song and go “Oh neat, it’s in 5/8.” And I’m like “How tf do you know that, and why does it matter?”
Well, quantum mechanics and quantum computing in general are very complex, and there are big parts of the field that nobody understands.
But double slit experiment is often depicted misleadingly made to seem a lot more magical than it is. The simplified explanation is that light moves as a wave and interacts like a particle.
The experiment sends light through one photon at a time. If the light travels through a single slit, it will form a wave pattern with one big peak. If there are two slits, the photon’s wave travels through both and moves like you would see waves of water do, making an interference pattern where the ripples coming from each slit collide. The weird part is that when you try to measure the photon as it passes through the slits, the only way you can observe it is by intetacting with it (so it interacts like a particle). It then then produces the patterns you would get with it passing through only one slit or the other, without the interference created by going through both.
