It’s been reported that in the German elections, a far right party has made ‘significant gains’.
In the UK (at least before the scandals) Reform UK seems to have had a significant boost and has even surpassed the right-wing Conservative Party in some polls/predictions.
Even France, one or two years ago, was threatened with a far-right government due to the French far right party gaining a lot of support.
Now I’m not political, but it feels like in the last few years, the far-right has exceeded itself and had a surge in popularity. Is this the case? And if so, wtf is fuelling it?
Lack of success of non-far right (and non-right) in many areas where only far right provide answers, plans or solutions. Instead of accepting this people instead suggest it’s illegal to have different ideas to them. Lemmy is one such place. And then congratulations, you’re making the problem worse.
Also consider that the regime needs or thinks it needs a “far right” and “far left” so it can posit itself as the “reasonable centre.” Maybe when we analyse some things proposed by so called far right and far left they don’t look so “far” after all, and can even exist in synthesis with one another. But when you say far left or far right you think of the worst thing that you’re told to associate with that movement.
