I typically avoid anything smart, but given practicality, I’m looking for general tips or recommendations for smart bulbs?

I have just started self-hosting home-assistant, and would prefer ones which integrate well with that.

What should I look out for when buying them? Any brands to avoid? Any cybersecurity concerns you’ve come across? Or should I avoid them altogether?

    I use a mix of Hue, Cync, and Nanoleaf bulbs. Hue are easily the best of the lot. They have best colors, the best temps, the best brightness, the best room control, the best app. That said, they are 4 times as expensive as the next cheaper alternative, and they require a hub. I have not yet setup my home assistant box, but it will be interesting to see how things improve after that.

      You can “adopt” Philips Hue bulbs into ZHA and ditch the hub entirely. I agree they have the best bulbs, but using their hub was a no go for me. Happy to report they’ve been working perfect directly on ZHA.
