JD Vance could provide neither a timeline for the Iran war to end nor a date when gas prices might sink below pre-war levels during a White House appearance Thursday, suggesting instead it was up to Iran to conclude the conflict that began with joint US-Israeli airstrikes six months ago.

The current hostilities shouldn’t even be called a “war,” Vance argued, since “active combat operations” ended months ago.

“Right now, there is no active shooting,” Vance insisted, despite three consecutive days this week when the US and Iran exchanged fire, including around the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump Today (and probably other days): “I think the war’s going to end immediately after the election because they can’t hold out any longer,” Trump said of Tehran on Wednesday.

Cnn calling it a conflict in the headline, instead of the war that it actually is, is just proving Vance’s false point

The Vietnam war was also not called a war, it was called a police action. It seems the Executive Branch’s ability to wage war without congress’s approval is a constitutional loophole.

    Edited for clarity

All you Negative Nellies are so eager to dunk on the VP that you can’t even hear his point. Sure, there’s a “conflict,” sure, our militaries are “shooting and bombing and trying to kill each other,” but you’ve missed the important thing, which is all the peace that’s happening. See, there was a moment of peace just then. And here’s another moment when no one is shooting now. And here – uh wait, wait just a moment – here’s another moment of peace now.

Well, so long as the Secretary of War isn’t involved, then it’s probably not a war …
