      I don’t think the feddiverse will ever be mainstream, it is too confusing for most people.

      Even I, an IT guy who has been here for about three years, am having a hard time understanding how the instances interact.

      Dead? Because Lemmy is dead. The only life here is bots reposting from Reddit. And I am talking about big themes like politics. Anything more “niche” isn’t even dead, it is completely non-existing.

        They hated the truth. It’s not dead if you like Linux and star wars. If you have any other interests, there’s a dead community for that!

        Reddit has much more activity and content, yes, but recently it feels more dead to me, not what it used to be. Now it feels like a very bland mix of the same posts again and again. Especially the main feed. The algorithms, bots and moderation policy made it into somethin much less appealing than it used to be. On Lemmy there is much less content but I find it interesting more often.

          Depends on what do you want. Narrow-themed forums for specialists are still here. But if you want a single point for overall news\fun things then yes, Reddit is the only option.

    It is underrated, and I’d love to see more people knowing about alternatives to big tech companies and services, I also hope it never happens. Reddit is full of annoying, rude trolls and dipshits. I am glad Lemmy has a pretty polite userbase.

          The current userbase is fine if you like to discuss Linux, Star Trek, politics, or memes. It’s absolutely not large enough for any topic that’s even somewhat niche.

    No, because the average person is either unaware of it, or doesn’t care about the reasons for using it.

    Also with Reddit, it’s a simple central place to go. No need to find a specific lemmy instance with which to register first.

    No. Roughly same reason Linux has not surpassed windows on desktop.

    Sadly no, unless getting into it gets much much easier. If you show fediverse to a Normie and tell them to choose an instance they’ll probably just give up. Too many choices. Same with Linux distros. Im quite computer savy and took me a while to figure it out, not that its hard but its just something different from the other stuff. But over all I love it here, its simpler. I just wish there wouldnt be so much politics and just memes. Idk how to block it all cuz there’s still political memes in shitposts so I just assume its part of it and can’t fully get rid of it. But thats everywhere I guess.
