In my experience the taste changes a lot depending on the cut, more than beef, but to be honest, the vast majority of the time I eat horse meat, it’s in the form of raw, ground meat.
Having never eaten horse myself, as I’ve never had the opportunity, I always expected it would taste similar to lamb, venison, goat, etc. Am I thinking correctly, or way off?
Nope, it’s much closer to beef than game or sheep, it’s rich in iron and has a somewhat sweet flavour, more delicate than beef while actually being more tasty, if that makes any sense.
My friend had a great theory that it’s the horses being put to slaughter.
Pretty easy to test for that using DNA testing.
Or just eating it. Taste is different.
