Donald Trump on Friday downplayed the toll on American sailors enduring nearly nine months at sea on the USS Abraham Lincoln as concerns escalated about mental health and supply issues aboard the aircraft carrier supporting U.S. operations against Iran.

In a brief exchange with reporters before flying to New York for an event to highlight falling violent crime rates across the U.S., Trump refuted that family members have raised concerns about the deployment’s length and even said that the deployment — which includes a record-setting uninterrupted time at sea of more than 240 days — is “not nearly long enough.”

There’s no way they could have known. It’s not like he had a history going back into the 70s and 60s of being a… oh, yeah. He did.

You know the joke in Back to the Future where Marty tells Doc the President is Reagan, and he says incredulously, “What? The actor?” Well, imagine going back to any point in the latter 20th century and telling someone that Trump will be President. Anyone would laugh, no matter what party affiliation. Seems we all had standards back then, even if they were still low.

The reason is simply because he’s the perfect tool that the Southern Strategy dreamed of. They never had an idea it would work so well.

They knew Trump was a scumbag back when they made Back to the Future 2! You think this…

      …was a coincidence?!

The DNC pretty much handed him 2016, and Biden handed him 2024.

The two parties are both trash, and the citizens just rolling over and taking it up the ass, doesn’t help.

Trump still lost the majority the first time and got under 50% the second time. USA’s insane election system caused much of it, as well as a failure of the campaigns to account for how it would play out in the uncertain states.

2024 was much more a media propaganda problem, although I agree they didn’t do enough to push back. They could’ve used the presidency to force the message to be delivered along with evidence of Trump’s corruption and they decided to “play nice” against the cheater

There’s no way they could have known.

They couldn’t have known an obvious malignant narcissist would behave like a malignant narcissist? Is that really your claim?
For that to be true, you’d have to be so stupid you wouldn’t be able to find the polling station either.

      Edit:
It doesn’t change anything that he quotes a movie, he picked that quote to make that point. And it is simply wrong.

Well, yes, people can be that stupid. Also, how did you read all of what I posted and not realize it was sarcasm? Or did you see the first few words and rage post?

Not for the first replies. But if they double down, then sure, let them have their “victory”. The chain of messages tells the real story.

No you have to agree with the psychopath to not be able to see it, and if you agree, you are no better yourself.
Only a psychopath don’t recognize a psychopath. And Malignant Narcissist is the worst kind of Psychopath there is.

Also it doesn’t look like sarcasm to me, quoting a movie is not sarcasm.
And Reagan is irrelevant to American voters voting for an obvious psychopath. For instance the situation with Russia was completely different. And Reagan actually had coherent policies.
Also Emmett Browns surprise is acting. It is not real.

You should look it up. It will make you realize how deep this goes. Can’t help you with the rest, it was pretty clear, unless you also don’t understand the movie reference. Which is entirely possible, it’s amazing how many memes are shared by people these days who are clueless on the origins. A true loss.

              Edit:
Yes I know the movie, I just don’t see how it’s relevant. You quoted that because you mean it.

There’s no way they could have known

I doesn’t change anything that you are quoting a movie where the statement may have been correct.
In the context you use it here it is simply wrong.
In general it takes a psychopath to not detect an obvious psychopath consistently behaving like a psychopath, that’s a fact.

                  Thanks.
Yes back to the future is actually one of my top 3 favorite movies, the whole thing after the first sentence was just such a load of irrelevant gibberish to me, I ignored it.
I don’t see how southern strategy is in any way relevant to detecting Trump is a psychopath or rather malignant narcissist which is psychopath².

I’ve edited 2 of my posts to better reflect my disagreement with what Rhaedas wrote.
Movie quotes or not, he is simply factually wrong.

I’m sorry that you missed many levels of understanding my original post. I wish you could have just asked for clarification instead of the diatribe of anger. Might have made you appreciate the meaning. You seem to have some issues understanding others in this message thread too. Maybe step back a second and take a breath.

I think you are hallucinating there. He is the one who doesn’t understand the meaning of what he wrote.

                  PS:
Of course I know back to the future and doc and Marty, it’s actually 1 of my top 3 favorite movies. But you just twisted it so much using it in this context it didn’t make the least bit of sense to me, it was like reading gibberish. So I ignored it, and I don’t see how it changes anything about the claim you made in the beginning,

There’s no way they could have known.

you used that quote because you mean it, and you are dead wrong.

Yes, a reference to someone being amazed of a person being voted in not qualified as President is totally out of context in this thread.

You would think as long as you’ve been on Lemmy, and probably on other places before that, you’d pick up on a common sarcasm trope like my first line, especially when it’s ended as I did. But I realize Poe’s Law has been dead for a good decade now, so the assumption is always that the person is being real. Never mind the many words later that seem to point otherwise. Right, you ignored them, as attacking on an assumption is always a great move. (that’s sarcasm, btw)
