Don’t judge a person by their instance, I suppose. Your school system is a minor difference and kids ride their bikes or walk to school all the time. It just went from extremely common to much less common. And like I said, literally everything else you mentioned is here in the US as well. I’m also willing to bet as just an assumption that 20 years ago in Germany there were even more kids that walked to school than their are today.
