What he’s saying: Paul has an “unhinged obsession with me,” and his motive for the hearing is to “get me to say something — anything — that could vindicate his repeated public pledges that I end up, in his words, quote, behind bars unquote,” Fauci said.
“Although it pains me to do so … under the advice of my attorneys, I will invoke my right under the Fifth Amendment of the Constitution to refrain from answering your questions,” Fauci said.

yeah it was wild. rand paul was telling him he does not have the right not to answer and faucis attorney said he did and rand goes nuts saying he had no right to speak only fauci should speak and calling the guards to throw him out and he was. wtf! which goes to show that libertarians have full on linked themselves to maga just like republicans.
I always assumed libertarians were people who didn’t want to call themselves republicans because republicans didn’t lean into pedophilia hard enough for them.
In the USA, libertarianism was invented after the New Deal in order to allow monopolies and other capital accumulation to occur without government interference.

They were the crazies even before the maga crazies.
Rand Paul says perfectly reasonable things about 25% of the time, and the rest is batshit crazy. There is no middle ground.
I mean im old. Back when I was in college they seemed at least more sincere but I dunno I kinda now wonder if they were always sorta a right wing disaster recovery option. Anyway if your young and at that time it was usually victimless crimes and that is appealing to younger folk and seems like they are very big on individual rights. It did/does not take long though to see how it unravels. Pretty soon you see they are essentially against public infrastructure and want to privatize everything which just does not work for many things. Private enterprise needing real competition to work. You realize to that they pretty much want no regulation and you quickly realize that yeah legalization might be great but it has to be regulated and bad impacts need to be minimized. Again this was when they were not even as goofy and it does not take long to realize it does not really work. This is why while I like the young turks from what I see of it I don’t trust cenk. I just can’t respect someone who in an adult educated life would take so long to realize how right wing things don’t add up. Its great he has seen the light but he might have or just realized he would never be a major player given his race with the side he was initially cheering for.
I think it’s because fauci was presidently pardoned and that changes the rules since technically you can’t go to jail for what they’re questioning on so he doesn’t need to plead the 5th. But I assume he didn’t want to open doors to other shit
except they keep saying he should be prosecuted. Their own retorict changes the rules again. Oh also they just ignore and violate the law including the constitution on a regular basis.
I just read the rule, he did the right thing by pleading the 5th since if he answers it can lead him to incriminating himself and in this case they were over reaching, go figure
yeah and there is nothing specifically saying a pardon somehow nullifies that right. Its mental gymnastics by the congressmen to somehow say it does not apply.
