    Yeah, there’s a non-zero chance the NYPD just goes rogue if ordered to do something they don’t want to do, especially if there’s an excuse of it potentially being illegal.

    That’s not to say the mayor should just let them dictate what their job is, but it has to be factored in when trying to do something on shaky ground.

      I’m confused how many people seem to believe the NYPD will do whatever Mamdani says here with no question.

      Do they know anything at all about the NYPD?

        I do think it’s important to try to bring them to heel, but that’s going to have to be done in ways where defying him is seen as perverting the good order of democratic society rather than anything where they can claim to be the principled actor. Then start firing anyone who refuses.

          At best, it would take years to even start accomplishing that. He has to build up enough political capital to outweigh decades of copaganda.
