Yeah, shit kills me. Like those Burberry trenches that are plaid all over. It’s like they said to themselves; “Someone occasionally seeing a little flash of plaid lining isn’t good enough! Everyone within 100 meters needs to know I can afford Burberry!” Those people are usually the least likely to actually be able to afford to dress that way consistently, and/or have the worst taste.
When brands start offering shit like that, it makes me much less likely to buy anything from them. It just cheapens everything they make by association. I’m even thinking I shouldn’t use Burberry as an example because their cachet has been reduced so much in my mind with the way they have catered to people like this in recent years.
Sacrifice anything outside of basic living expenses to max out your 401k(or similar), and put more in a non-tax advantaged brokerage if you can. Do not touch your 401k before retirement for any reason. Never take out a home equity loan, do a cash out refi, or roll other debt into your mortgage. (Matters of literal life or death excluded, of course.)
Retiring at 48 with a paid off house beats the hell out of succumbing to the temptation of lifestyle boat in your 20s.
