Your absolute best bet is to sort All/New, build a filter list of users, communities and instances that you don’t want to see content from and enjoy and active feed of content that interests you. This would never work on a site like reddit but due to the niche nature of the fediverse, it’s the best way to keep from feeling like you’re the only one here.

I can’t think of anything Reddit could do aside from turning off the site that would make a significant dent in the traffic. Take Twitter as an example. It’s now run by a sieg-heiling Nazi that promotes his AI that will help users make child porn(paying customers only) and customizes the algorithms to hide any content that doesn’t promote the agenda of the world’s richest person and people still use it although there are at this point a multitude of competing platforms.
I’m confident Reddit will continue to be heavily populated for the foreseeable future.
People are generally ok with trading exploitation for entertainment. It would take a lot more than an API disruption to get enough people to force a change.

9·24 days agoYou just need a decent block/filter list. I scroll new/all and probably see 3-4 political posts daily.
I would be unable to use Lemmy/Piefed without a well-rounded block/filter list.
