When a disease threatens a loved one, at least nobody insists it’s an exciting opportunity to disrupt the family. With AI, billionaires are actively funding the risks, lobbying against safeguards, and asking us to applaud their vision. Apparently »move fast and break things« hits differently when the thing is society.

Lots of cancers can be effectively treated and is an accepted risk that we can only mitigate the danger to continue living.

AI is 100% controllable and preventable (at the moment anyway) but is being forcibly injected into our lives by those in power in order to gain more power. It sounds like a conspiracy theory but I literally sitting on the shitter typing this out on a device that is probably recording video and audio or at least reading what I’m typing. Right in the center of the keypad is an AI agent icon that I can’t disable and really really wants to help me type out this message.

I’m not scared of generative models. I am scared that oligarchs with unlimited resources and increaseing influence will face no consequences for their crimes.

What exactly are people afraid of? It says “destroy humanity”, but how? I find it hard to believe that the average American is concerned about reverse engineering.

To me it’s going to wreck the economy one way or the other.

either it matches it’s hype and it recoups it’s trillions of dollars invested via taking half or more of the countries jobs for only half our sallaries. Or it’s going to implode and all of us are going to end up desperate for work when the financial crash wrecks everything 10x harsher than we’ve ever imagined.

To me the AI fear wouldn’t be as bad, if we were further dipping our toes in. UBI or an economic system where we didn’t have to work to live. Of course in america we’re seeing the opposite as they are adding work requirements to food stamps, medicaid etc…
