It’s gotten to the point if the GOP wants it, there is some underlying nefarious reason so I should hate it. I mean if they suddenly wanted UBI, universal health care, and 3 day work weeks I’d start to wonder what’s up.
I can think of a few reasons.
“We can’t do UBI or universal health care because it’s not in the budget and we’d have to raise income tax, which is constitutionally disallowed.”
Granted this is at the state level, but still.
Cap stuff that’s truly predatory like Duke Energy, they can go suck a railroad spike.
That will definitely not make NC even more of a shithole.
The income tax is regressive. The rich don’t pay it because their money doesn’t come from a salary. They pay property and capital gains taxes. Income tax hurts the middle class almost exclusively and it shouldn’t exist in the first place.
While capital gains should be taxed, an income tax is far less regressive than things like sales tax, VATs, or property tax on single property dwellings.
Capitalism shouldn’t exist in the first place.
