There are three potential reasons for members of this forum to have a look at https://vutuv.de/

You are tired or annoyed of LinkedIn.
You are searching for a job or a candidate.
You are technically curious and want to have a look at the inner workings of such a project. We use everything Phoenix Framework has to offer and connect to the Fediverse.

vutuv compared to LinkedIn is not closed gated and it is free for everybody. You can read every posting and visit any profile without having to register first. Have a look at my profile at https://vutuv.de/wintermeyer

Please give it a try and please do give me feedback. Here or if you find a bug or want to post a feature request in our GitHub repo. Thanks!

Honestly though I feel like a federated linked in has the same problem as a federated dating site…, or really even federated facebook style social media etc…

Federation can work for something like lemmy, in that we can be useful in spite of a lack of userbase compared to the corporate version. 200 people scattered around the world to talk about linux, or open source works.

Trying to find someone close enough to you to date, or looking for a specialized employee or a close enough to work on site employee on the other hand, is a hell of a stretch.

Look, I really want LinkedIn to disappear. But please, please, please don’t focus on building/porting another “platform” to ActivityPub. A client application that can interact with C2S servers would be a thousand more times more interesting, for users and companies alike.

ActivityPub already has an API. Let’s just use it.

…but how does that help me create a blog post demonstrating I can make a thing in order to get hired? If I just use mostly the thing that already exists and just intelligently hook up a smaller more minimally scoped software to it then it doesn’t really help me get a job…?

Of course it does. You just need to change your resume to say you are looking for a software architect position. Chances are you are going to end making even more money.

Funny as I wanted to recommend bizzFed today. I finally pulled the recommendation due to rather ungoverned AI use.

I cannot asses whether vutuv is really better in that regard, but at a first glimpse Wintermeyer’s AI workflow seems to be more sophisticated.

While not open-source and federated, Profesia and other Alma Career job searching platforms are pretty good and EU-based. Plus there’s a ton of good places other than LinkedIn that are better and probably not vibe-coded.

So there’s 2 of them, bizzfed and this? I wonder if they choose the same entities as AP actors etc and work together in a good way.

So cool… but looking at the rest of the comments I might just be a little naive. Yet it is worth at least checking out.

Any reasons why this was created from scratch instead of as an add-on for Friendica or Hubzilla?

Oh, right, because hardly anyone knows that Friendica exists, next to nobody knows that Hubzilla exists, and definitely nobody outside these two (and their offspring) knows that they’re modular to begin with.

Also, I guess that the only other thing in the Fediverse that vutuv is compatible with is Mastodon. Again.

I’m tired or annoyed of LinkedIn so I’m going to join the fediverse version of LinkedIn… yeah…

Nothing is in the cloud, but what if someone else creates an instance hosted in a cloud service? And what difference does that even make? It’s not like data scrapers can’t go and see everything available to the public.
